Dentist Place

Tomorrow Charlie goes to the dentist for a cleaning and to get a sealant painted onto his adult teeth.  This must be on his mind tonight because as he was getting out of the tub just now he asked me this, "What is a dentist place called? A dentist-ium?"

Haha.  A dentistium?  That is funny.  Just had to share.

A Leap Day of Snow

After school Charlie tried to catch snow on his tongue.

Just a little bit of snow so far, but it is still coming down.  Uh - gotta go find the piano music.

Happy Hop Day

Or Leap Day.

Three leap years ago today we bought my house.  This seems like a more accurate depiction of time than the otherwise 12-year span.

I was looking for a picture of my house but found this instead..

Flip-flop

Just now Charlie said to me - So Democrats want to spend money?  What's the other one?
Me - Republicans.
Charlie - Right... I want to be a Democrat.  I want a 3DS.

Just last month he was a Republican.

All About Black Bears - A Project by Charlie

Over the past two weeks Charlie and I have been working on his science project - All About Black Bears.  In school he did the research and wrote the report; at home he made a presentation board and a DIARAMA.  (He was all about creating a diarama.)

Falmouth Public Schools Science Fair 2012

Charlie is so proud of his science project on black bears that he wants it to be in the Science Fair.  I just registered him.  Here is the information and the link:

A Cold, Cold, Cold Walk to the Beach

Cub Scouting

The trek to the Knob.  The trip was intended to have more scrambling over sandy rocks, but high tide stepped in and altered the plans.  The boys and the dogs didn't mind.  Part beach, part woods, pure energy motored the crew to the Knob (and back again).  The perfect remedy for cabin fever.  Spring can't come soon enough...

The Show: Living in a Snow Globe World

Here are a few pictures from after the show...

Charlie was a cross country skiier.  He did a SUPER job! YAY Charlie! Yay Everyone!

Woods Hole Ferry in the Snow

You could just walk right out onto the beach - in the snow.

Living in a Snow Globe

That is the title of Charlie's musical.  The performance is today - and it is SNOWING!  Yesterday it was nearly 60 and today it snows.  Go figure.  Gotta run to rehearsal, but just wanted to let you know!

Pattern or Pattern - (We went with silhouette.)

We have been working on Charlie's science fair project.  It is on Black Bears.  Well, at first it was going to be on wolverines, then it was killer ants, and NOW it is black bears.

He is making a poster telling ALL about bears.

One of the things we decided to do was to get some black fur and cut it out in the shape of a bear.  But Charlie was curious about the word pattern.  Because last year in kindergarten he learned about patterns.  White, white, black, black.  White, white, black, black.  (That's a 1,1,2,2, pattern - see I learned something in kindergarten too!)

I was using the word in a different way.  And it was confusing.  I found a silhouette of a black bear on the internet, blew it up, and printed it out.  I told Charlie we were going to use this as our pattern to cut out a fuzzy black bear.  And that is where he got hung up.

Then we were at BBC waiting for our buy one get one free pizzas and naturally I was the one coloring with the crayons and I made a pattern - see?  Blue, green, yellow, red.  Blue, green, yellow, red...

This was when he asked me why I was calling the silhouette of a black bear a pattern.  I tried to explain but ultimately we decided to settle on the word silhouette instead.

p.s. Black fuzz is EVERYWHERE.  And Charlie vacuumed as I cut!

Fire on Main Street

Yesterday on the way back from Musical Theater Dance Workshop, we saw a firetruck sitting outside the firestation in Cotuit.  As a distraction from some Charlie drama at drama camp I pointed it out along with the two firefighters.

Charlie said, "Maybe they are going to a fire."  I really didn't think this was so as we witnessed no urgency in their action as we passed by.  But sure enough, a few minutes later I said to Charlie, "I smell smoke."  To which he said, "Maybe it's the fire."

"What fire?"  I just didn't listen to my son.  He saw a fire engine and thought it was heading to a fire.  He was right.  There was a fire.  It destroyed two businesses on Main Street.

As we got closer the air became choked with smoke.  My hair smelled of smoke.  From the drive-through ATM Charlie took pictures and cheered to the firefighters.  Here is what he got..

Five shots one winner.

Here is what the paper got.
Cape Cod Times. February 22, 2012.  Front Page.  Back Page, Front Section.

Same action, different angle.  I like Charlie's.  :)  But... he's my kid.
